Melissa Yap

Clinical Psychologist

Melissa Yap is a clinical psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She provides individual therapy to adult clients experiencing a range of emotional and mental health difficulties including depression and anxiety, stress, trauma (including PTSD and complex trauma), emotional regulation difficulties and life adjustment related concerns.

Melissa has completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology, and has experience in both private and non-profit mental health settings. She has extensive experience working with trauma presentations in her previous role supporting individuals with a history of family violence and/or sexual abuse.

She takes an integrative approach to treatment and draws from a range of evidence based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness based therapies, Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Melissa has completed specialized training in EMDR and engages in ongoing professional development and regular supervision from experienced EMDR clinicians.

In addition to clinical work, Melissa is a board-approved supervisor offering support to provisional psychologists undertaking the 4+2 and 5+1 internship pathways.

She takes the time to get to know each of her clients and tailors treatment to suit the needs of each individual. She recognises the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship and takes a warm, non-judgmental and client-centred approach so that each individual feels safe and supported in the space. Melissa enjoys working collaboratively alongside her clients to assist them in achieving their personal goals.
